I am a teacher educator, so the obvious answer is that my work serves others by sharing my expertise and helping my students become the best teachers possible, thus serving their own students. However, I also feel like I serve others by being available to my students for advice and support during trying times. As working adults, they must sometimes make difficult choices in terms of focusing their time and energies: work, family, or study. I do my best to help them maintain a healthy balance and perspective. Since I teach online, I believe that they truly appreciate my efforts. It is easy to feel disconnected when the majority of one's interactions are computer-mediated.
